| dc.description.abstract | Background: Graves’ Ophthalmopathy (GO), an autoimmune inflammatory disorder associated with Graves’ Disease, presents with ocular symptoms that range from mild discomfort to vision-threatening complications. Despite advancements in medical science, GO continues to pose challenges in diagnosis, treatment, and equitable healthcare access, particularly across different global regions. Objective: To conduct a comprehensive, evidence-based secondary research study examining epidemiology, clinical progression, and current as well as emerging treatment paradigms for GO. The aim is to support improved patient outcomes and guide informed clinical and policy decision-making. Methodology: This study employed a retrospective, descriptive design based on secondary data from peer-reviewed literature, clinical guidelines, and epidemiological reports across seven major healthcare markets (7MM). Both quantitative (e.g., prevalence data, treatment uptake) and qualitative (e.g., expert opinion, clinical algorithms) approaches were used to assess trends in disease burden, therapeutic efficacy, and market development. Findings: GO affects up to 50% of patients with Graves’ Disease, with a significant burden observed among adult women aged 30–50. Traditional treatments such as corticosteroids offer limited, phase-specific benefits and are associated with notable side effects. The emergence of targeted biologic therapies—especially teprotumumab—has transformed the therapeutic landscape, improving outcomes for patients with moderate-to-severe disease. However, challenges remain in managing the chronic fibrotic phase, ensuring early diagnosis, and addressing accessibility issues due to cost and healthcare infrastructure disparities. Conclusion: Graves’ Ophthalmopathy remains a complex and evolving healthcare challenge. While biologic therapies offer new hope, there is an urgent need for anti-fibrotic treatments, biomarker-driven early detection protocols, and policy reforms that ensure equitable access to advanced care. A multidisciplinary, patient-centered approach is essential to improving both functional outcomes and quality of life for individuals living with GO. | en_US |
